Environment

Tecnam P2002 Sierra

AFOS Flight School provides a complete and dedicated training environment, where you can achieve your objective in the most efficient and cost effective manner.

The school is located at Rand Airport in Germiston. The climate varies from an average temp of 30°C in the summer months to around 15°C in the winter months. In both our wetter and drier months, we are able to complete short courses in the allocated time. The advantage of flying in these conditions is the exposure to situations, such as decreased aircraft performance, that you will most definitely encounter in your future flying career. Weather is one of the major problems inexperienced pilots have to contend with, and teaching you to be conscious of the dangers involved, is one of our objectives.

Rand Airport controls most unscheduled, light aircraft traffic in the area and the busy airspace ensures students will gain an exceptional sense of situational awareness and will be competent in radio procedures at all busy aerodromes. You will first master the basic training skills in the general flying area, situated approximately 15 minutes away, then later you will learn to apply your skills operationally in the surrounding airspaces, which are situated within a 30 to 40 min radius and equipped with the necessary navigation and approach facilities, including secondary and primary radar.

Equipment & Facilities

Inside the Cockpit of a Tecnam P2002 Sierra

AFOS flight school has four full time instructors and two administration staff. The infra-structure includes a reception area, lecture hall, administration office, AMO, hanger and an entertainment area including a swimming pool.

We propel ab-initio student pilots through their PPL's, Night rating, Commercial and Instructor's ratings. All our aircraft are maintained by our own maintenance organisation, which is useful in teaching you a practical understanding of the more technical aspects of your course.
